I love how this guy races the car himself, has done a full "all wheels off the ground" but he looks nervous when Bradley is driving at 25 percent power. 0-60 in 2.9 is amazing

I like the idea of electric cars, it's helping to push technology forward but is it really saving any earth or emmissions?

When you plug it into an outlet to charge, where did that electricity come from? In my home town, the power is generated by a coal-fired power plant... and the coal is the cheap dirty stuff (low grade, with maximum 'smoke') so I'm not sure how this saves the planet.

I think it just shifts the emmissions to somewhere else.

I'm looking for some replies from smart people - cause I don't get it.

I've been asking that same question myself since the late 90's when I was in high school. Very good point, Rob. Another thing to consider is how much more the electric company is going to have us by the balls if everyone gets an electric car. How much more will they start charging for electricity? It's really something to be considered.

Thanks Jon, now let's extend that thought... (1) we're burning cheap coal anyway to make the electricity to charge the car batteries... AND (2) those batteries have ti get recycled or get dumped in the ocean.... buried in the ground...

I guess that I'm just happy that I'm not the only thinking clearly.

Well boys and girls have you ever heard of "Solar Energy". Does more than grow stuff. And if U.S. would get away from the "Fear Factor". The US Navy has been successfully building and opperating "Nuclear Power Plants" since the 50's no accidents, NO Failures, (there are crushed hulls on the seas bottom without reactor failures.) Say the word "Nuke" and America is inhabitated by rabbits. Keep on burning Coal, till it runs out at least!

A definite good thing on that car. Would love to have one, would love to see the price come down so I'm not having to take out a home loan to buy a car too.
Of course, one question I have is: what's wrong with it? Besides it only being available by the one person, why hasn't it gotten more attention. I'm sure T-Rex didn't just contact AOL with his discovery. So, there has to be some other things that aren't being said.
It's important to know what is wrong as well, so that more minds can be applies to fixing those things and making this car a reality.

You're right about shifting, somewhat. For a lot of places, like near you, all that would happen is an increase in coal use. That is something else that needs to be changed. However, there are plenty of high population places that use hydro, wind, and even nuclear (sp?) power. So, over all, if electric vehicles went mainstream, it would reduce the pollution. However, to be honest, it would only be a slight reduction.
There are other benefits to fully electric vehicles being mainstream. One is that the focus against pollution could be pulled away from our highways and centered on all those coal and nuclear plants that still pose threats. Demand for more efficient methods of producing power, and less polluting methods, could potentially be stronger, and efforts to replace polluting methods of energy would increase.
Compare Iceland, where they have almost turned the entire country into a non-polluting energy source. They didn't do it over night, they did it in parts.
Another benefit I like to point out is that pulling away from gas powered vehicles reduces how much we use products from foreign sources. The benefits of not looking outside the U.S. for energy are plentiful.
Ultimately, we can't sit back and let one thing lead us to believe it is the single answer to all of the issues in the world, but we can believe that it is a step in the right direction.

FANTASTIC T-Rex, Great story!!! If the big auto companies would ever want to get their heads out of their butts they should come and talk to you. You have a great idea there and somehow with gearing you are getting the power to the wheels. All you need to do is somehow get a generator, alternator, or some kind of transformer to be able to "recharge the batteries" as you are driving to maintain the energy level. I know with all the intellegent minds in this world this is possible. The only thing is the government and oil companies are keeping this knowledge quiet for now. It's not hard to figure out, and we the people will!!! It's just that they don't know how to tax "free energy" yet. Once they figure that out, then we will have electric cars that can re-charge as they are driven. Keep up the godd work you are doing!!!

By the builders own admission , the car is all done at 100- 110 mph.He is racing in the 1/8 mile not the quarter mile. Any good street rod would pass him up by quarters end. He makes no mention of cost to build in electric form as opposed to gas, time to recharge the batteries or of the type of drivetrain he uses. What about heating and air conditioning? How does he propose to do that? Off the batteries?LOL

Series wound DC motors (such as the WarP 11 used in this vehicle) produce 100% of their torque at stall (0 RPMs), while petrol fuel engines usually make more torque (and HP) as RPMs increase. Thus, electrics are great off the line (as evidenced in the video - he pulls the gas car out of the hole). Most EV conversions need only a small AC as there is almost no motor heat to heat up the passenger compartment. The heaters used in most conversion Es are ceramic heaters which produce heat almost immediately. The new battery chemistries are not affected by temperature like the lead-acid, so range is not as bad in cold weather as you might think. I know of an EV that just completed 907 miles in a 24 hour period (7 recharges were required).

Firstly electric car designers are keen to keep people dependant like oil, The american government has the data to make an electric car that runs from cosmic energy that which is all around us (ie; the atom how much energy does it have if it is split!!!)Nichola Tesla had such a device powered a buick or something with a heavy old dc motor with a bunch of old glass transistors and diodes and really old is the optimium word here..... where is it now????
Secondly we are all given a lot of bs about how short is the oil there is more oil under the northern states of the US than all the oil ever produced by the arabs and it wont run out either it just gets dirtier or polluted with radio active material like the gulf oil as it produces deep underground.
Thirdly what happened to all the patients for running a cumbustion motor with water???? ask the oil companies they know where they are the more we are duped into paying more for fuel the more cash they have to buy em out and they've got plenty!!!
And last is the magnetic motor 2 companies in Australia have working magnet motors and we are all still waitin for that to happen if ever, every government around has not even acknowledged them as a viable alternative and one of em can power 2 - 4 houses for a 100 years for free.... look up TROY REED electric car on youtube, where is he gone???
I say keep pushin buttons and put these asswipes in the fire so the truth comes out then we will have an energy revolution so we all win...

Hey Rich, yea that sort of seems better... solar cells.

I suppose this is a steo in the directions? Get the cars on electricity, still electricity production burns and males emmissions, then over the years the power generators will adapt... switching over to solar/wind/etc.
