I'm curious to know if this popularity with the EV is going to meet with the same fate as the previous and better performing EVs from GM, TOYOTA, and HONDA, some 15 or so years ago . Do you recall the TV documentary: " Who Killed the Electric Car?" Those that have not seen it, absolutely MUST see it. It's available online anywhere.

The one issue I have is giving up or swapping my spanking brand new battery tray for one that just came out of "General Lee" driven by the Dukes all scratched and banged up! Who insures me that I get exactly what I am giving up?

I think the answer to Rene's question is that the battery doesn't belong to you, so it doesn't really matter which battery is installed in your car. The Better Place model appears to be that the battery ownership is retained by either Better Place or a third party, and you make periodic payments that will be substantially less than the price of gasoline. The payments will give you the right to switch batteries when you need to do that.

This cannot lower EV costs. The batteries have to be paid for, not to mention these complex swap stations, plus Better Place needs to make a profit, so in the long run this has to increase the costs of EV's, not lower them. It's also completely unnecessary.
