Running to feed the parking meter may soon be a vestige of the past. According to the New York Post, New York City will soon institute a plan to allow drivers to buy extra parking minutes using their phones.
The service, used already in Atlanta and D.C., will outfit 300 parking spots in the Big Apple's pilot program and may eventually render the physical parking meter obsolete.

Drivers will download an app to their smart phone or send a text message to specify their meter and how much time they would like to buy.

Although this will help many people avoid parking tickets, it could damage a source of serious revenue for some cities.
