While at the 2011 LA Auto Show, we took a break from the major manufacturers to focus on some electric carmakers that have yet to become household names. DOK-ING is a Croatian company that produces mining, firefighting and robotics equipment, but its unique XD prototype looks to make a splash in the automotive world. CODA hit the scene a few years ago and says they're finally ready to bring an EV to market. Will either of these industry outsiders edge their way in?

Just out of curiosity, what will it cost to completely charge up a car per day ?? I t could end up being the same as buying a couple of gallons of gas, the way gasoline has climbed recently!!! And I'd imagine THEN the electrical utility companies will see their opportunity to raise the price of supplying us with electricity!!! No end to to the SCAM CYCLE!!!!!

"Coal-fied" isn't very "green." Corn ethanol is a useless waste of precious FOOD.

Well when I can get to Florida pulling my trailer in 24 hours from Massachusetts maybe I would consider an EV, till then I will keep my gas burners.

Would somebody please grow a set. . .
Stop thinking about plugging-in to AC electricity altogether. AC is DEAD. Stop thinking about recharging batteries. It’s taken big business 30 yrs to but LED’s in tail lights. Yet, American autos used fiber optics in the 60’s (for light transfer – but they still used it (no miniature bulbs and LED’s back then)).

THINK Low voltage DC, along with DC “engines” (not motors), nanotechnology, rechargeable DC Solar cells (remember solar is already DC – converting to AC (as in your home) is, and was always silly), AND eliminate ALL gasoline engines – if you need hp use a TDI veggie diesel. YES, Mr. Diesel’s engine was designed to run on peanut oil (but it’ll run on palm, corn, or anything that will burn), AND IT WAS NEVER INTENDED TO RUN ON GASOLINE. Everything you've ever bought, came to you via a Diesel, and every industrial/commercial facility has a Diesel backup generator. It's time to domesticate the diesel.

LET’S RECAP:
TDI Veggie Diesel/Electric/Solar Hybrid - I'd buy it, and so would you! Get me from A to B, I'll worry about style later.

"I'd buy it, and so would you!" Speak for yourself, idiot. Give me a '65 Mustang Fastback any day over any piece of dung you make reference to.

You keep your mustang, I'll keep my masserati. Mine is not a daily driver. How's about a TDI Veggie Diesel/Electric/Solar Hybrid that "looks" like your mustang? Better yet, how's about a DC Motor drive shaft "assist" that'll help your V8 RWD get 40 mpg city? That's right, once you get up to speed, the DC motor kicks-in, you go into neutral and the alternator runs the DC motor - you're cruising at 60 mph on a DC motor (while ideling @ around 8k rpm.

I got to admit though, a 65 "Fastback", that's rare - I'll have to look that one up.

$50,000 for a vehicle that can only be used to and from the store or work. That seems to be the problem with ALL electric vehicles, you can't make a 400 mile trip to Grandma's in one.
