In a video released earlier this week by Boston Dynamics--the robotics company behind BigDog--a humanoid robot named Petman is seen performing a wide range of motion exercises while wearing a Hazmat suit and gas mask. As you can see in the video below, Petman's movements are unnervingly human-like.
Petman is a bi-pedal robot (we have some experience with those) developed by Boston Dynamics, along with a long list of partners, "to test the performance of protective clothing designed for hazardous environments," according to the company's website.
Along with human-like movements, the robot shares some other features with the species that created it. According to Boston Dynamics, "Petman also simulates human physiology within the protective suit by controlling temperature, humidity and sweating."
