Tesla is considering adding an 'autopilot' feature to future vehicles and is discussing the potential for such technologies with Google, according to a report by Bloomberg. Tesla CEO Elon Musk told Bloomberg in an email, "I think Tesla will most likely develop its own autopilot system for the car...However, it is also possible that we do something jointly with Google."

Musk clarified his statements regarding an 'autopilot' system and any possible collaboration with Google through Twitter:
In his comments to Bloomberg, Musk indicated his preference for a camera-based system, rather than the LIDAR-based radar system Google employs on its autonomous vehicle, citing the expense of such systems.

While completely driverless cars may still be years away from production, it's clear that automakers see an increased role for autonomous technologies in their future products.
